“Chiropractic Glossary —Upper Cervical Technique”

About Upper Cervical Technique:

This is a therapeutic technique that is applied to the upper cervical vertebrae and is also known as the Hole-in-One (H.I.O.) Technique or Toggle Recoil Technique.

A patient is asked to lie on his/her side on a special table designed for chiropractic therapy on the upper cervical vertebrae called the “Side Posture Table”, and then adjustment is applied to a single location in the upper cervical vertebrae.

The therapy is aimed at removing blockages to the nerve energy flow at the upper cervical vertebrae, which runs from the brain to the spinal cord and then to peripheral nerves. The treatment completely activates the natural (innate) healing powers that well up within the body to let the body itself remove the source of illnesses. Thus, the mechanism of treatment is essentially based on “taking away obstacles” rather than “adding something to the body.”

This method is not determined by illnesses and symptoms. The treatment is provided to improve speed and accuracy of sending information from organs to the brain. Once the brain has been provided with all the necessary instructions, it is able to concentrate on coping with any disorder that occurs within the body. This process is enhanced by adjustment.

As the body secures this process it is able to identify and cure illnesses. The mechanism of the process is essentially based on the natural physical functions of the body, much like the way injuries or wounds are cured. This functioning is so subtle that you may not notice or feel it.

It is hard to notice how the body works to cure illnesses because the process is simply the body regaining its health, which is a part of the natural physiological function of getting back to normal condition from the abnormal condition of illnesses.

While the therapy sometimes has dramatic effects like alleviating relentless 15-year-backache in just a single session, most patients say that as they receive the therapy they start to feel better and their symptoms disappear without them knowing it is happening. This is how natural healing powers work.

Distortions of the whole bone structure will improve in proportion to the overall improvement in the physical condition of the body. Thus, improvement of the physical condition leads to correction of distortions of the bone structure. You can physically see how this works within the body.

The effect of the therapy to correct the distortions is comprehensive in that it affects whole body from head to toe. Some patients find that the facial structure has improved, others see their toes straighten.

Chiropractic therapy on the upper cervical vertebrae maximizes natural healing powers.
